Qiraah Sabah atau tujuh bacaan adalah macam-macam cara membaca Alquran yang berbeda, disebut tujuh bacaan adalah karena ada tujuh qiraah yang masyhur (terkenal) yang masing-masing memiliki ragam bacaan tersendiri.
Mengapa bacaan Alquran begitu banyak?
Ada sebuah kisah dari Umar Bin Khattab,
Dari Umar bin khatthab, ia berkata, “ Aku mendengar Hisyam bin Hakim membaca surat Al-Furqon di masa hidup Rasulullah. aku perhatikan bacaannya. tiba-tiba ia membaca dengan banyak huruf yang belum pernah dibacakan Rasulullah kepadaku, sehingga hampir saja aku melabraknya di saat ia shalat, tetapi aku urungkan. maka aku menunggunya sampai salam. begitu selesai, aku tarik pakaiannya dan aku katakan kepadanya, “siapakah yang mengajarkan bacaan surat itu kepadamu ?” ia menjawab, “Rasulullah yang membacakannya kepadaku“. lalu aku katakan kepadanya, “kamu dusta ! Demi Allah, Rasulullah telah membacakan juga kepadaku surat yang sama, tetapi tidak seperti bacaanmu“. kemudian aku bawa dia menghadap Rasulullah, dan aku ceritakan kepadanya bahwa aku telah mendengar orang ini membaca surat Al-Furqon dengan huruf-huruf (bacaan) yang tidak pernah engkau bacakan kepadaku, padahal engkau sendiri telah membacakan surat Al-Furqon kepadaku. maka Rasulullah berkata, “lepaskanlah dia, hai umar. bacalah surat tadi wahai Hisyam !” Hisyam pun kemudian membacanya dengan bacaan seperti kudengar tadi. maka kata Rasulullah, “begitulah surat itu diturunkan” ia berkata lagi, “bacalah, wahai umar !” lalu aku membacanya dengan bacaan sebagaimana yang diajarkan Rasulullah kepadaku. maka kata Rasulullah, “begitulah surat itu diturunkan. Sesungguhnya Al Qur’an itu diturunkan dengan tujuh huruf, maka bacalah dengan huruf yang mudah bagimu”. [HR Bukhari, Muslim, Abu Dawud, An-Nasa’i, At-Tirmidzi, Ahmad, dan Ibnu Jarir]
Berikut tujuh qiraah yang masyhur :
Ibnu ‘Amir
Nama lengkapnya adalah Abdullah al-Yahshshuby. Beliau seorang Qadhi ( hakim ) di Damaskus pada masa pemerintahan Walid ibnu Abdul Malik. Pannggilannya adalah Abu Imran. beliau adalah seorang tabi’in. belajar qira’ah dari Al-Mughirah ibnu Abi Syihab al-Mahzumy dari Utsman bin Affan dari Rasulullah SAW. Beliau Wafat di Damaskus pada tahun 118 H.Perawi Ibnu ‘Amir : Hisyam dan Ibnu Dzakwan

Ibnu Katsir
Nama lengkapnya adalah Abu Muhammad Abdullah Ibnu Katsir ad-Dary al-Makky. beliau adalah imam dalam hal qira’ah di Makkah, beliau adalah seorang tabi’in yang pernah hidup bersama sahabat Abdullah ibnu Jubair, Abu Ayyub al-Anshari dan Anas ibnu Malik. beliau wafat di Makkah pada tahun 120 H.Perawi Ibnu Katsir : al-Bazy ( wafat pada tahun 250 H ) dan Qunbul ( wafat pada tahun 291 H)

‘Ashim al-Kufy
Nama lengkapnya adalah ‘Ashim ibnu Abi an-Nujud al-Asady. Disebut juga dengan Ibnu Bahdalah. Panggilannya adalah Abu Bakar. beliau adalah seorang tabi’in yang wafat pada sekitar tahun 127-128 H di Kufah.Perawi ‘Ashim al-Kufy : Syu’bah ( wafat pada tahun 193 H ) dan Hafsah ( wafat pada tahun 180 H )

Abu Amr
Nama lengkapnya adalah Abu ‘Amr Zabban ibnul ‘Ala’ ibnu Ammar al-Bashry seorang guru besar pada rawi. Disebut juga sebagai namanya dengan Yahya. menurut sebagian orang nama Abu Amr itu nama panggilannya. Beliau wafat di Kufah pada tahun 154 H.Perawi Abu Amr : ad-Dury ( wafat pada tahun 246 H ) dan as-Susy ( wafat pada tahun 261 H )

Hamzah al-Kufy
Nama lengkapnya adalah Hamzah Ibnu Habib Ibnu ‘Imarah az-Zayyat al-Fardhi ath-Thaimy seorang bekas hamba ‘Ikrimah ibnu Rabi’ at-Taimy. dipanggil dengan Ibnu ‘Imarh. wafat di Hawan pada masa Khalifah Abu Ja’far al Manshur tahun 156 H.Perawi Hamzah al-Kufy : Khalaf ( wafat tahun 229 H ) dan Khallad ( wafat tahun 220 H )

Imam Nafi
Nama lengkapnya adalah Abu Ruwaim Nafi’ ibnu Abdurrahman ibnu Abi Na’im al-Laitsy. asalnya dari Isfahan. Dengan kemangkatan Nafi’ berakhirlah kepemimpinan para qari di Madinah al-Munawwarah. Beliau wafat pada tahun 169 H.Perawi Imam Nafi’ : Qalun ( wafat pada tahun 12 H ) dan Warasy ( wafat pada tahun 197 H)

Al-Kisaiy
Nama lengkapnya adalah Ali Ibnu Hamzah. seorang imam nahwu golongan Kufah. Dipanggil dengan nama Abul Hasan. menurut sebagiam orang disebut dengan nama Kisaiy karena memakai kisa pada waktu ihram. Beliau wafat di Ranbawiyyah yaitu sebuah desa di Negeri Roy ketika ia dalam perjalanan ke Khurasan bersama ar-Rasyid pada tahun 189 H.Perawi Al-Kisaiy : Abul Harits ( wafat pada tahun 424 H ) dan ad-Dury ( wafat tahun 246 H )
